“Small acts when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world.”
If Howard Zinn’s wise words are modified slightly, just one word, it can shed light on our current situation.
“Small {selfish} acts when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world.”
Adding one word unveils our current situation.
What happened in China, and even Italy, we can put down to ignorance, disbelief and incredulity.
We know better now?
Scientists have shown us, the World Health Organisation showed us and the proof from China and Italy, with thousands of deaths, showed us.
What we need to do has been explained. It appears simple. Stay at home where possible. When going out, avoid close contact with people. Wash hands in warm soapy water. Use hand sanitisers.
Simple, but it’s proving far too difficult for most people to comprehend.
We know this because the public has been shown the solution and it is not being adhered to.
Ignorance and apathy reign supreme in times of uncertainty.
Zinn was right, millions of people can transform the world through small acts. However, instead of transforming the world in a positive, proactive way we are doing something else.
Instead of transforming we are transferring to the world a deadly virus, through small acts of selfishness.
This is to the detriment of our friends, relations and potentially everyone across the globe.
People are choosing to be selfish.
People are suffering, economies are falling apart and thousands are and will die. Possibly tens of thousands!
We know the solution.
Stop being selfish, follow the guidelines, eradicate the virus and get back to living the life you choose.
Where life and death are not predicated on whether you wash your hands regularly, or not, which seems to be the case!
I hope this small act of writing encourages you to act because if you do nothing you will be complicit in the spreading of pain, suffering and death.
It's time to choose. The power is in your hands. It's in the choices you make.
For others, your choices may be a matter of life or death.
Choose life.
Nicely said Darren, great article.
